Are you worried about your dog damaging your newly installed sod? Well, you don’t have to stress anymore because there are preventative measures you can take to protect your luscious, beautiful lawn from pet damage. You see, most dogs love to roll around in fresh grass; however, they don’t understand how to keep that grass looking nice. Unfortunately, the yard is a park where they can run, roll around, and go to the bathroom whenever they want. Which then leads owners to find their sod with holes or ripped up.

Additionally, dog urine is high in salt and nitrogen, which typically lead to patches of dark sod. Although, in more extreme cases, the center of those patches will wilt, die, and turn brown sometimes in 24 hours. To prevent any of this from occurring to your sod, continue reading this blog!

Provide Another Source Of Entertainment

Generally speaking, most dogs tend to destroy the lawn because they’re either bored or need a way to burn off their energy. To prevent any damage from happening, you can take your dogs for long walks and toss the ball with them. Doing this will keep your dog preoccupied with other outdoor activities rather than digging up holes in your sod. Please note that most dogs dig for water, so you should leave a water bowl out for them.

Get Rid Of Annoying Pests

As mentioned above, dogs like to dig holes to look for water. However, there may be another reason why they are acting destructively: they are trying to kill annoying pests. Make sure to observe whether they’re digging a hole in a specific area because that could be where pests are hiding. If you notice any pests, you should contact a professional to treat your sod using a safe method to endanger your pet.

Provide Solid Protection

If you notice holes near building foundations or trees. This may be a sign that your dog is digging holes to make a shelter. Dogs tend to do this to protect themselves from certain weather conditions, such as rain or snow. If you find your dog doing this, you may want to keep your dog inside during these weather conditions. It is better for their safety anyway if you keep your dog indoors.
